Factors To Consider When Renting An Apartment

Whenever you decide to rent an apartment in sunny Tucson, there are a few factors you should consider, aside from the cost. Sure, there are many cheap apartments for rent in Tucson, but selecting one of those just because of the inexpensive lease, may not be the smartest decision you ever made. Selecting an apartment is an art, which will require a bit of investigative work. Before signing your rental agreement, check out the following:

– The location: Do you prefer a place close to school, work and friends, or do you not mind a little commute every day because you want to live secluded? While you may enjoy the long drive in the first months, remember that the lack of sleep and the rush hour traffic may become an annoyance after a while.

– Amenities: When you are looking at apartments for rent in Tucson, do not only check out the apartment itself, but the entire building or complex. What amenities are available? Is there a recreational area with a pool and covered, outside dining areas? Will there be planned social activities? Do you have access to a washer and dryer? Do the grounds have adequate parking? How far are the nearest grocery stores? Having nearby shopping possibilities may be very convenient if you have no personal transportation.

– Reputation: Never sign a lease without checking what others have to say about the apartments for rent in Tucson. Talk to the renters of the building you are interested in and check reviews online. If too many negative comments pop up, it may be best to consider another place in the same neighborhood. Once you moved in, it will much tougher to switch.

Land Hermit Crab

Some species of hermit crabs are land hermit crabs while some species are marine hermit crabs. The land species have their physiology suited for a survival on land, and they do not survive within water. Similarly, the water crabs live within water for their life, and they do not survive on land. The reason behind these two contrasting survival philosophies can be pointed to evolution of the species. The land species, due to many years of survival adaptation on land has developed a modified gill mechanism for respiration on land. These modified gills have become insufficient to survive in water for long bearing testimony to the terrestrial preference of the land hermit crab species.

You must be wondering how the modified gill mechanism works. The secret to their respiration is the fact that land crabs take oxygen, not from the air around them, but from the moisture in the air around them. This is the reason why the crab cages have a damp feeling in them. The dampness is crucial for the survival of a land crab and this humidity is maintained by retaining water in the sand bed of the crab enclosure. An interesting point to note in this regard is that baby land hermit crabs are bred and hatched in water, and the baby crabs take their first tiny shells from the waterbed. Apparently, the respiratory system of the baby and the adult land crabs are largely different, as the babies can survive longer within the water than adults can. The babies grow into adults through a series of moltings.

Although the land and water crabs have different respiratory mechanisms yet members of both groups are true hermits by nature. Just as hermits bear their own burden in their solitude; these crabs also bear their shell house on their back. This nature of these exotic creatures makes them truly respectable. (Try to think, you are carrying a weight forever for your back and you will realize why the crabs are truly respectable.)

There are several species of land hermit crabs, and of these the commonest are the Coenobita crypeatus of the Caribbean origin and the Coenobita compressus crabs of the Ecuadorian origin. Their nativity has also earned them the names Caribbean crabs and Ecuadorian crabs respectively. The Caribbeans, otherwise known as tree crabs and soldier crabs have the distinct features of an armored front claw, more speckles on their body, a roundish eye shape and a general purple hue. The Ecuadorians on the other hand, do not have an armored front claw, have stripes at the sides of their heads, have elongated eye shapes and are generally reddish and orangish in color. The coloration of Coenobita compressum can be even of a tan color or a light bluish color.

Hermit crabs, land or water are delicate and sensitive beings. They always prefer quietness and isolation. Sometimes it might happen that a land crab is ‘nude’, or is out of its shell. You can really feel the annoyance and embarrassment of the little creature at that time. In such cases, the responsibility of bringing peace back to the crab lies with the owner. The owner has to be a friend of the land hermit crab and try to understand its viewpoint of being out of the shell. Find a clean and convenient new shell for these crabs to live within. It is crucial to remember never ever to push or compress the crab in a small shell. They are delicate beings and in such stresses, they start to shed their limbs. Check the inside of the shell for any folds that might cause inconvenience to the land these wonderful creatures.

Short-Term Rentals: What to Know Before You Lease

If you’re suddenly faced with relocating, a long-term corporate assignment or need to find short-term accommodations, have no fear. Although the task of weeding through all the different options may seem daunting at first, it doesn’t have to be if you know what to look for in your search. Like any new endeavor, it pays to do your due diligence when searching for the right company to provide temporary housing.

There are many different types of companies offering short-term accommodations. Knowing the difference in what kind of accommodations are available is the first step in choosing the right company for your needs. There are corporate suites, hotels that offer extended stay pricing, short-term furnished apartment rentals, short-term house rentals, apartment locators, and companies that specialize in temporary housing to fit your needs.

The following is a list of key items to check out so you can find the right company for your particular needs:

Customer Service: Does the company or service provider offer personal customer service or will you be treated like a number? If you are given few options, it is likely you will be treated like a number and wind up unhappy. A great temporary housing specialist will listen to your needs and strive to accommodate your requests.

Size: Yes, size matters. The average apartment is at least twice the size of a normal hotel room or extended stay unit. Most apartment units provide a private patio and/or balcony with storage as well. Extended stay companies operate on volume, and have “cookie cutter” units that are often too small for comfortable living. Extra space can make a big difference during an extended stay away from home.

Price: Corporate suites and short-term apartment rentals are typically less expensive than a hotel and often times equal to or less expensive than extended stay hotels.

Customization: Can the company tailor the accommodations to your needs? For example, can the company make it possible for you to bring your pet or set up space for a baby’s room or home office? While some extended stay facilities allow pets, as a general rule, hotels do not.

Furnishings: Choose a company that has quality standards and offers to provide all the comforts of home. Do they offer fully furnished accommodations with quality furniture? How about a 32″ LCD TV, kitchenware, linens, washer and dryer, vacuum and cleaning package, iron with full size ironing board, artwork and decorative items?

Convenience: Can the company provide accommodations that offer privacy and convenience of location? Short-term apartment rentals and corporate suites are more private and located in a residential area.

Laundry Facilities: Find out if a washer and dryer are available. Laundry is an additional expense that can add up fast when staying at a hotel. Some extended stay accommodations have a laundromat but it is usually in another location and not very convenient. A customer service oriented company will provide a washer and dryer in either a corporate suite, furnished apartment or house rentals.

Receiving Mail: Will you be able to conveniently receive mail if you have it forwarded? Attention to little, but very important, items like this will make a big difference in your temporary stay. Personal mailboxes come with all corporate apartments; however hotels will only offer a pick-up in the lobby.

Garage/covered parking: Will you have a convenient place to park your car? Hotels only offer an outside parking space or parking garage on a first-come first-serve basis. The majority of apartment complexes have individual garages, high-rise parking garages and/or individual covered parking included or available. Some complexes even have parking available for boats and recreational vehicles.

Check out different companies and really compare the services offered. Keep in mind less expensive does not necessarily mean a better deal. It may mean poor service or lower quality accommodations. A temporary housing provider that is less expensive than the competition is typically offering inferior accommodations.

Inferior accommodations could mean an inconvenient or unsafe location, fewer amenities, or poor quality furnishings. You may be told an “immediate move-in” is available, but it could be very unsuitable for your needs. It pays to compare apples to apples and select the company that will listen to your needs and deliver what you want.

Finding the right short-term accommodations for your situation is easy when you plan ahead and choose a company with customer service as their focal point for doing business. After all, excellent customer service is what separates the good from the great. It will make the difference in a nightmare move or an easy transition.
